Planning for Patagonia

Getting excited about our trip! South America is so big, a real challenge to plan for. We decided to break it down into months, starting with Patagonia in February.

After a few days in and around Santiago we will be heading south via the famous Navimag ferry. This looks like a fantastic option to see the Andean fjords, so much cheaper than equivalents around New Zealand's Fiordland. It will take about four days to travel from Puerto Montt to Peurto Natales. Will pack plenty of pisco as we heard the bar is expensive.

First trek on the itinerary is Torres del Paine. We are taking on the W track, West to East, over four days. Apparently food is for sale in the shelters along the track so hoping to travel fairly light. We found that camping was the cheaper option, hiring a tent when we get there.

From there it's on to Perito Moreno Glacier (two nights incl glacier walk) before tackling the Fitz Roy range (three nights). Thinking of then heading North along Ruta 40 to El Bolson. Exciting stuff!

Will be sure to post plenty if pics, let us know if you have any tips!

Cheers,

Mark and Sas.
