Mount Fitz Roy is one of the draw cards for those interested in hiking in Patagonia. The mountain range is connected to the Southern Patagonian Icefield, the third largest mass of ice in the world (after Antarctica and Greenland). There are plenty of well worn paths to trek in Los Glaciares National Park, which is accessed from the super cute town of El Chalten.
We spent three days here, and did two full day treks: the first was up to Lago de los Tres, with a fantastic view of Cerro Fitz Roy, and the second was a panoramic view of the whole mountain range, on the Loma del Pliegue Tumbado trek. Both treks were longer and much steeper than we anticipated, but the view was definitely worth it!
